How to teach a child to make decisions!

Not good at posting on line. Since Thanksgiving have had lots going on. Thrilled that Obama is elected and trying real hard to get the economy heading in the right direction.

Why do we have children before we learn to be a parent? To drive a car we have to take a test. To become a parent, have sex. Doesn't seem right. A parent should know how to raise a child before they ever have it. One of the many things wrong with our world - we don't learn to parent until we are grandparents - then our kids don't want our advice because they think they know more than we do.

My son is married for the 3rd time, fathered children by 3 women - one he wasn't married to. Maybe I never taught him how to make decisions. He always jumps into a relationship because he's lonely and wants to rescue the gal. Takes after his dad. He rescued the first wife after she had a miscarriage caused by another guy. The marriage took place 3 weeks later. She bragged to me that at least they didn't have to get married! Quite the social graces. Marriage lasted til they had 2 kids and got arrested for selling drugs.

He had an affair, she got pregnant, but he got dumped, married the first gal that was nice to him. Marriage lasted 6 months. Met the 3rd wife at AA but that didn't last long. She got her 3 kids back from foster care and after one year, they married and started the drug thing all over again. Lost one house, trashed. Then had a child together. My DIL has 4 children by 3 men - and all have been arrested and in jail because of her - including my son. Now, why do I think he makes bad decisions!

They call me when they need rescuing - like 3 years ago when they were evicted, had no place to live, no money, asked me to take the 2 youngest kids while my son went into 6 mos. rehab. I had the kids for 7 weeks and couldn't take it anymore. 13 yr old was difficult. 6 yr old only wanted her mom. The next year they needed rescuing again, take the then 7 yr old and the dog for a few months. It was a lot of work, but we loved having the granddaughter with us. She's beautiful, fun, giggles. Good relationship. Then we added her half brother in January on probation until his 18 birthday in July. Wow!

GDTR left in March, Grdson left on July 6. We just sat and listened to the silence for a couple of weeks. Old people doing nothing.
